Difference Between Prefab and Relocatable Homes

If you're planning on constructing a new home and at the same time in search of something cheap without risking quality, you would surely need to check out prefab homes. These can be compared to relocatable homes as they are manufactured in the same way, but they aren't totally the same.

Prefab homes are built with the same materials that you'd use to construct a house on a construction site. Both, prefab as well as relocatable homes are manufactured by factories in parts and are shipped to their destination. Both of them are totally customizable and you can get one constructed no matter what's the size of your family. Also, you're free to include the features you wish to see once your home is constructed too.

Prefab homes are fixed and once set up on a piece of land they aren't taken apart and moved away. Therefore, all you need in order to construct a prefab home are the right tools and most importantly a piece of land. Instead of spending a year or so on the construction of your home, when you build using the parts supplied by a manufacturer you can set up your prefab home within 2-3 months.

Relocatable ones on the other hand, even though they are manufactured at factories and shipped to their destination, are built so that they can be dismantled and transported to another place; or, if not dismantled, they are reinforced so that the home could be transported as a whole to another part of town or maybe even another city!

Both prefab as well as relocatable homes are customizable and you're free to choose various options in terms of design, materials used, roofing and much more. So, depending on your budget you could allocate funds to a specific part of your home. This way you could make your home more efficient from the start and even benefit from lower bills all through the life of your home.

If you and your family move a lot and you want to retain your home, you should go ahead and buy yourself a relocatable home; however, if you're only looking for something that's cheaper and faster to build up, prefab homes are ideal. In this time of the dreaded economy across the globe, these homes are the best choice.

If you're not sure whether these homes are going to be the right option for you; then, you could always visit the showrooms and check out models or even computer simulated models to get a glimpse of what your home would look like.

  1. very nice article. thanks for sharing. relocatable homes are also known as Ready to Move Homes. In Canada saskatoon and saskatchewan the cities are popular for RTM Homes.

  2. I never knew there was a difference between relocatable homes and prefab ones. I know that much of these homes are assembled in the factories, but I didn't know that they could be built in 2 months! Is there any size difference between the two?
